Biography:

Jacqui Higgs is a Forres-based, Dublin-born artist with a background in fine art, painting and art therapy.

She graduated from Edinburgh College of Art in 1994 and completed a postgraduate degree in Art Therapy in 1996. That same year, she became a professional member of the Scottish Society of Artists. Since then, she has exhibited widely across the UK, including solo and group exhibitions and London art fairs.

Her current work is rooted in coastal observation. Recent drawings and paintings have developed from visits to Kirkcudbright, Sandgreen, the Moray Firth and Caithness, where harbours, shorelines, storm debris, sea stacks and surf culture provide recurring points of reference.

Jacqui’s practice begins outdoors, through on-site drawing and research that later informs larger paintings, mixed-media works and occasional monotypes in her Forres studio. She combines painted surfaces with printmaking techniques, including applied silkscreen, woodblock printing and watercolour figuration.

The process of excavating and exploring surfaces shaped by sea, shorelines and edge-places is central to her work, creating layered, atmospheric images grounded in the Scottish coast.
